LOCAL CHAPTER
Why?

You might ask, “What precisely does a Local NELIS Chapter do?”

First of all, the NELIS Local Chapters aim to connect, inspire and empower local sustainability practitioners and social innovators (change makers) across the world to build a strong, trust-based community of and for action.

NELIS Local Chapters enable its members to strengthen their skills as “sustainability leaders” and foster transformative change towards sustainability both in each local context, and as a global collaborative platform. Through this local network, a variety of projects and activities can be pursued, depending primarily on the interests of local members and the perceived sustainability challenges in each local context. The local network can also participate in and/or propose regional or global projects.

Where?

NELIS embarked on its first Local Chapters prototyping phase between 2017-2019, with local chapter activities taking place in Japan, Finland, India, Nigeria, Uganda, Liberia, Kenya, Singapore, Colombia, Mauritius, Estonia and Sweden. As we continue to expand on our activities on connecting, inspiring and empowering sustainability

practitioners/a new generation of sustainability leaders, we are happy to launch new Chapters in more countries.

Network within networks calling upon a
large entity/the global network when needed.
What?

By setting up or joining a NELIS Local Chapter, you can:

  • Connect with leaders in your area and around the world.
E.g. Through “NELIS Sparks!” events; “NELIS I-Labs” (innovation in sustainability sessions), or; other activities that you can propose given your specific context.
  • Inspire a new generation of leaders who will help build a sustainable world
E.g. Through organizing “Local & Regional NELIS Summits”; engaging in local or global collaborative projects)
  • Empower your community in a different way
E.g. Through action-oriented activities that are tackling the sustainability-related challenges in your community; by weaving ‘local2global’ networks with other NELIS Local Chapters and with other NELIS members.
  • Set out to build One World in Harmony E.g. By participating in NELIS Global Summits
