Local Chapters
What is a Local Chapter?
NELIS Local Chapters enable its members to strengthen their skills as “sustainability leaders” and foster transformative change towards sustainability both in each local context, and as a global collaborative platform. Through this local network, a variety of projects and activities can be pursued, depending primarily on the interests of local members and the perceived sustainability challenges in each local context. The local network can also participate in and/or propose regional or global projects.
NELIS Local Chapters aims to connect, inspire and empower local sustainability practitioners and social innovators (change makers) across the world to build a strong, trust-based community of and for action.
Where are we?
NELIS embarked on its first Local Chapters prototyping phase between 2017-2019, and today we have 11 local communities in 4 countries working together.
As we continue to expand on our activities, we are happy to launch new Chapters in more countries. Feel free to contact us if you want to start your own Chapter in your region, country or city.
Explore the map below to have more information about the existing Local Chapters and the contact information of their leaders.

Local Chapter
Akure | Nigeria
The first part of this project encompasses carrying out a Radio campaign in different Nigerian languages informing people most especially the local and marginalized communities on how highly communicable Corona Virus is, how to prevent the spread of the virus by maintaining social distancing, washing of hands regularly, the use of hand sanitizer for those who can afford, using of nose masks when they feel unwell and possible ways to maintain hygiene.
The second part of the project is to do a community outreach where locals would be given reusable nose masks and be taught how to wash and keep it clean and hygienic for self-use we would also be teaching them how to locally produce hand sanitizer for those who cant afford it.
The third part of the project which is view is to share foodstuffs to the less privileged who are being affected by the lockdown in the nation as a means of relief and palliative to ease them this period.
